Lainie is an RN that performs patient callbacks and "always goes above and beyond every shift she works, but one shift, in particular, stood out" to her supervisor.
A young patient, accompanied by a parent, presented to the Emergency Department. The parent and child had been seen in an Urgent Care and an Emergency Care facility in addition to receiving a referral to an outpatient clinic - all occurring the day prior to presenting in the Emergency Department of our hospital. The parent was experiencing some challenges in having the child seen by a pediatric specialist at a different facility in the region.
Lainie called a physician's office personally to facilitate the arrangements for the care of this patient. She was made aware that the radiology films would need to be reviewed by the physician in advance of any care determination. The existing disc with the films could not be loaded into our systems, so Lainie obtained them from the parent and then ensured that the physician had the requisite films to review.
After reviewing the films, the physician agreed that the patient needed to be seen and worked with the parent regarding all necessary arrangements. This child was able to have the necessary surgery in order to treat the condition. This was a challenging situation that required many steps to ensure that this patient received the needed care.
