Pam Lewis was so caring toward our son, B. Even though we have named her "No-Nonsense Pam", B was always happy to see her. We call her no-nonsense because she gets the job done. She would not allow B to waste away in his bed which sometimes he wanted to do. If Pam had a plan for the day, it got done.
B started bleeding in February. There had already been an order for blood placed early that morning, but it had not arrived due to B developing some antibodies. When B started 'pooping' blood it went to a critical status quite quickly and he was going to need to be moved to ICU. During this whole time, I saw doctors & surgeons gathering in the hall. I would continue to hear Pam speaking to B in the calmest mannered tone asking him how he was feeling. I was getting more nervous as I saw more doctors, but I would still just listen for Pam who was calm and gave no inclination that we needed to be worried even though I knew differently.
I would then hear Pam come out into the hallway and speak in an urgent tone for someone to get blood right away. Then she would walk back in the room & start talking to B in a tone like they were just making plans for dinner.
Ultimately in my ramblings, what I'm trying to say is that because Pam was so calm during this traumatic time it kept me, and most importantly, B calm. She made sure all our room items were moved to our new room in ICU and then personally delivered my purse saying that "No lady should be without her purse."
Pam then came up on her breaks or at the end/beginning of her shifts to check in on B (and mom & dad too). Thank you, Pam, for your compassion and sweet level head during the most difficult day in my family's life. We feel confident in her care and trust her fully. She explained everything she did and made sure we had all our questions answered timely. Kudos to you, "No Nonsense Pam". You make sure things get done and we never even realize that you're making us work for it!
