April Jones, Staff Nurse—Colleague, PICU, Children’s at Scottish Rite
According to her colleagues, April is a hidden gem in the PICU. She doesn’t attract a lot of attention, but if you have the privilege of working with her, you’ll find that she is a nurse whose commitment to excellence is amazing to watch. She is loving, caring and a stickler for details. One colleague shared that if you, “give her a patient with high critical needs, April makes it look like an easy task taking frequent vitals, labs, communicating effectively with physicians and following through.” When providing general patient care, April cares for her patients like they are her own children. She is a natural teacher whose knowledge and teaching skills shine through when working with a student or new nurse. She always provides a helping hand and does what she needs to do to make the unit run seamlessly. With staff, April is a voice of support—providing honest advice and a listening ear.
