The Daisy Award for October 2010 at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital is awarded to Barbara Koren, RN, MSN, CCNS, APN for exhibiting the qualities of a Daisy nurse. Barb is a teacher, leader, compassionate care provider, involved in the Magnet Journey and is clinically astute.
Barb is very knowledgeable and demonstrates outstanding clinical skills.
She is always available as a clinical resource to answer questions and always knows the answer or where to find it. Barb is always available to meet with patients, families, doctors, and nursing staff. She has the unique ability to remember everything about a patient's history, family, simply by name or by seeing them. She always takes the time to educate and discuss the plan of care with patients and family. Barb has an ability to address difficult subjects with patients and family members such as palliative care, end of life issues, code status, and need for extended care facilities. She is a compassionate, comforting, confident, and a knowledgeable caregiver. Barb is a role model for the staff nurses at AHH. I strive to learn from the example that Barb sets. I have purposefully used the word "always" multiple times in this nomination because Barb never fails to carry through. Barb achieves excellence in her practice through her knowledgeable and compassionate care she provides patients. Barb openly shares her knowledge with the nurses at AHH. She is truly an asset to our institution and a godsend to her patients.
