My wife and I would like to thank Roxanne, who works on the Labor and Delivery floor at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado.
When V and I arrived at Longmont Hospital we were anxious, excited new parents who were about to have our first child. That evening Roxanne introduced herself and spent ample time addressing our questions and concerns for the following day.
The next day, we felt confident going into the labor! Throughout the morning, Roxanne was in and out, attending to our needs and trying to make the process as comfortable as possible. The next part of the story is the way above and beyondportion where Roxanne exceeded our expectations. At approximately 12:15 p.m., the anesthesiologist arrived for V's epidural. The procedure did not go as anticipated, and my wife started having unusual signs and symptoms, which the anesthesiologist reported, 'I have never seen before.' [In short, the numbness traveled to her chest and head instead of numbing her lower body.] During this time, my wife was nauseous and visibly shaking. Roxanne continued to remain calm, checking her vitals and providing constant reassurance that everything would be ok. At one moment, I distinctly remember Roxanne holding my wife upright in her arms as she was vomiting into a bag. I felt as if she was another family member present in the room. It was her presence that kept us together and upbeat during the intensity of the day. Roxanne stayed in our room from 11:00-5:00- she did not take lunch that day and did not take any breaks from our care. It was exceptional.
After the baby was born, Roxanne sat down with my wife and I and our mothers. She explained the complications that occurred during the day. She was extremely professional, and took responsibility for the mishaps that occurred, even though they were not her fault. Roxanne's actions truly changed our experience for the positive. If we have another child, we know we will be going back to Longmont United because of her exceptional care.
