I am an AMR paramedic and recently I took care of two patients in a very unfortunate situation; an older male found unconscious in the Yellowstone River and his 6-year-old grandson found wet and cold by a passerby.
While first responders, law enforcement and hospital staff worked diligently to locate and contact family, the little boy sat quietly by himself in a room in the Emergency Department.
As a parent myself, I was overcome with emotion, imagining this child as my own. While I was in the emergency department, I witnessed Holly Jones put down what she was doing and immediately told the charge nurse she would sit with this child.
I can't begin to express how thankful and relieved I was to see this child was no longer sitting by himself and had someone there for him.
Reflecting on this unimaginable event, I write this holding back tears thinking of my own child sitting in a room all by herself.
I am overwhelmingly grateful to Holly for taking the time to be there for that little boy!
