I was transferred from the ICU to level 15, Teresa was the nurse taking care of me after I had heart surgery. She welcomed me with love and caring and gave me world-class care, she was not the first nurse to take care of me, but I felt the difference with her.
I started having weird symptoms and I was told that this is expected after the intubation during surgery. I had achange in my voice and the way I talked and swallowed. Teresa calmed me down and reinforced that this is expected,but because she is professional, compassionate and caring and wants to help the patient, she took an extra step without any request from me or from my family. She consulted the speech therapist who confirmed that this is not related to intubation it is paralysis in the vocal cords and this needs urgent intervention.
