When meeting Jiang Xiaoxiao, I was a patient at Renji Hospital Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. I got a lung infection caused by low immunity after liver transplantation. I was so tired of lying in bed. My doctors told me that I would get better, but I believed that they were just trying to comfort me by saying that. I was not sure that I could go through this and questioned my decision to have a liver transplantation.
That day, as usual, I rang to ask the nursing assistant to help me sit up. A nurse in a green uniform came in and I could tell she was a visiting nurse. She smiled and introduced herself: "Hi, my name is Jiang Xiaoxiao, and I am a visiting nurse here. Let me help you." I felt some relief just seeing her smile and adjusting my bed.
During days after that, Jiang Xiaoxiao talked to me from time to time. I felt comfortable talking with her and knew she was from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou. She gave me a sense of caring. One day I asked her whether the doctor was available to check my lab results. Jiang Xiaoxiao showed me my lab results and patiently explained them to me. I did not realize nurses could be so professional. She kept me informed and she encouraged me. She said I was brave enough to go through this and I could not let my twin sons down. She also helped me download the hospital's app so I could check lab results by myself.
Time flies quickly, and two months later, Jiang Xiaoxiao completed her visit. I was getting a lot better, but I was sad that she was leaving. Surprisingly, she wrote me a "Thank you" card for what she learned from me and for my braveness. And she texted to check on me and encourage me.
It was Jiang Xiaoxiao, who gave me the deepest sincerity, confidence, and love during the toughest days of my life.
