My Nan had been cared for on Collingtree Ward where after a diagnosis of cancer (amongst other illnesses), Nan not wanting to be 'fussed over' (her words) any longer, we took the extremely difficult decision to put her onto palliative care. Elle was there from the word go, she was only ever a phone call away and was always happy to talk through any questions we had. A couple of days before my Nan passed away, I had become extremely upset during a conversation where I ended up crying and sitting on the floor by a window along Hospital Street. My Mum came to check on me, I asked to speak to Elle. Elle then came and sat with me for at least 45 minutes, reassuring me about all my concerns and talking about anything and everything that came to my mind. She showed genuine concern and empathy and took everything at a pace I was comfortable with. Elle sat with me on the floor and when I was ready, walked back into my Nan's room with me. She validated all my feelings and made me feel so cared for in that time together, as well as on any interaction with her. She truly is an Extraordinary Nurse and I genuinely feel that without Elle, my Nan's death would have affected me a whole lot worse without her care and support. I want to thank Elle from the bottom of my heart and she deserves all the praise and recognition there is for what she did for me and my family.
