My dad was a patient of yours a few months ago. He was admitted to UM for 3 weeks, and while here, received the diagnosis that his cancer had spread to his brain. Actually, you were the one that had read us the report, and later that day you spoke with my mom, sister, and her kids at the end of your shift. You said something to my dad, and the rest of my family, that will forever stay with us. You told my dad that as a nurse, you do your very best to be strong for your patients, but you could not help but be overwhelmed with emotion, and that my dad was one of the strongest and most positive patients that you had ever had in the face of this most recent and devastating news. I know that this meant so very much to my dad. My family had always told my dad how positive he was despite everything he had been through over the past 11 years, but hearing it from someone who takes care of sick patients daily was so very meaningful. I wanted to thank you for your kind words during that time as we will never forget them, and we know how much they meant to my dad. My dad passed away earlier this year. He was the absolute best man I will ever know, and I'm sure that you also saw that in him. Again, I just wanted to thank you on behalf of my family, and most importantly, on behalf of my dad.
