The Emergency Room at Martin Health System North is not where most people would plan to spend their Valentine's Day night. However, that is exactly where we found ourselves. Fortunately for us, Johanna Job was spending the holiday working the night shift in the ER.
Our son-in-law was suffering from what we assumed was the flu, but despite his and his wife's best efforts, his condition continued to decline. His shortness of breath, fever, total exhaustion and neck pain were what finally prompted us to take him to Martin North ER.
Johanna was assigned as his nurse. Having never been a patient in an emergency room or admitted into a hospital, our son-in-law was not only very ill but extremely apprehensive. Johanna had unlimited compassion, patience and understanding with the situation. She took the time to explain in detail exactly what she was doing and why she was doing each test, blood draw or procedure, and how the results would help the doctor determine his diagnosis. She thoroughly explained the medications she was giving along with the purpose for giving them. When our son-in-law had a question or voiced a concern, Johanna took to the time to stop, look him in the eye and patiently address every one.
We appreciate Johanna's knowledge, attention to detail and patience with educating her patient, as well as her compassion in recognizing and dispelling his apprehensions.
Johanna's professionalism went above and beyond to make our son-in-law's first ER visit and subsequent admission to the hospital a positive experience.
