Both Katie's 12-hour shift one day and her 12-hour shift the following day held a patient with a complicated situation. An adolescent who was brought into the Genesis West ER for examination. This patient required a lot of extra attention to gain the trust of an adult. With the trust the patient had in Katie, treatment could finally begin.
This patient was subject to many horrible things over the past nine months and finally reached a point that she wanted help. Katie was able to coordinate a community meeting between police, DHS, schools, and several other community entities to come up with a solution to this patient's complicated social issues that brought her into the hospital.Through Katie's wonderful effort with this patient, plans are being made to enact changes for adolescent girls in the community's schools.
Katie has been trained as a SANE nurse (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) and leads a team of nurses by holding meetings and providing updates to the team. Katie sits on the Sexual Assault Response Team as a representative of the Genesis Medical Center. She is an outstanding role model for Genesis West ER.
Katie took a horrible situation and provided extraordinary patient care with her exceptional patient experience. Katie demonstrated empathy and a caring attitude throughout this patient's entire length of stay.
