I was recently hospitalized for over 12 days in St. Michael's Surgical Care Unit. I had a small bowel obstruction determined to be cancer, and I was faced with both a difficult recovery and a distressing diagnosis.
There are several care providers on the unit who all went above my expectations, but Melissa really stood out. Melissa immediately showed genuine compassion and support for my difficult situation. She really listened. She was always attentive to my needs and she communicated in a way that showed she was doing everything possible to make me more comfortable and assured. Her nursing skills and attention to details were clear to see, and I always felt that I was in good hands. Melissa answered questions directly and positively. She was attentive and encouraging, and she even helped me about on short walks whenever she could.
Most of all, Melissa was positive and warm beam of sunshine in an otherwise difficult period of recovery. She deserves to be recognized for her outstanding care at St. Michael's Hospital!
