Words from one of the Nursing Resource Team RNs, Vanessa Shafer; "I was in 6 Center last night and we were 3 nurses short and the nurse manager, Jennifer Martens, came in to work and help out. This is not the first time, she has done this several times. There was a time when I was having diarrhea and vomiting but I did not feel bad, so I just kept working. The other nurses called her and she came in before 5 am, told me, 'go home, you are turning green'. She does exceptional work with her subordinates, patients, and family members. She listens and appreciates, ready to help with a happy demeanor."
Additional words from Vanessa to another nurse leader: "Jennifer supports and promotes teamwork, camaraderie and uplifts the team spirit. I have high regard for her because she steps in our shoes and understands how her staff is doing. She is approachable but still keeps her place as a manager. Thank you for recognizing good deeds as there is no price for such things like these in the medical field. My teachers say that nursing is a vocation, it is not a profession. We are called to help and serve, be stewards of health and promote healing within ourselves, patients and colleagues."
Jennifer's positive energy gets employees revved up. Jennifer understands that people who are energized by feeling cared for, feeling valued, feeling important inspire them to do great things. Jennifer has this effect on her staff. She is a phenomenal leader. Jennifer promotes a positive image of nursing, as evidenced by her caring and compassionate spirit. To know Jennifer is to know nursing is what she was meant to do. She is well deserving of this DAISY Nurse Leader Award!
