Laura is extraordinary in the care of the multiple ICU patients she encounters every day. She works Daily as an inpatient ICU transport nurse, road-trip after road-trip, every case she cares for is what I would refer to as tender loving care. She details every aspect of what is going on to the patients. She details every aspectto the nurses as well. For example, if they have been to IR, and have had invasive procedures done, witnessing her stand side by side explaining to a nurse what she needs to look for post-procedure, document etc. She is very experienced and knowledgeable. She does her very best to get all patients to their destination safely.
Recently this safety catch was entered. A dysphagia diet was recommended for this patient following a FEES on a previous day. SLP team contacted by ICU Transporter Beth Manning about thickening patient's liquids for a test in nuclear medicine. Per Beth, the patient would be asked to consume liquids in order to complete the procedure/test. She was concerned about aspiration knowing that a thickened liquid diet was recommended. SLP was able to bring down thickener to thicken the assessment liquids, which likely assisted in preventing aspiration. Shout out to Beth and ICU Transport for being proactive and attentive to this patient's needs! This is her workflow daily as she is working proactively in the best interest of each and every patient she cares for. She receives positive staff and patient feedback on a consistent continual basis. I had the pleasure of working with Beth the other day. Nothing but great things to say. Her personality is such that she is bright, smiling, friendly to work with. Recently, she was asked for her words of wisdom for new nurses and other ICU staff who have to transport patients. Her words, "safety first, then teamwork. Most beneficial: Consolidation and organization! Not only will this make your life easier, you will know your lines and drugs in case of codes/emergencies and it looks pretty."
