There is an angel, Cecilia Wright, working in the OR at MVH. She also happens to be a phenomenal nurse. She has the special gift of connecting with people. She has a way with her patients that makes them feel immediately safe and at ease. She has the great ability to calm them as they drift off to sleep for surgery.
Cecilia also watches over her co workers. I was the beneficiary at a department team building session one morning. It was a difficult time for me during the holidays. Cecilia sat down beside me in one of our circles and began to talk to me. I really was not in the mood, however, I asked her how she was doing. Like me, she has had many challenges of her own. She looked at me, like I have seen her look at her patients, with such care and concern, and asked me how I was doing. For all the reasons her patients love her, I found myself wanting to talk to her. I told her what was wrong and started to cry. She opened the door to talk later, if I needed to talk to someone.
A day or two later, Cecilia was a tremendous help, providing a way for me to help myself. Her act of kindness was an answer to a prayer and a turning point for me. She has aided others in our department. She acts quietly and sometimes anonymously.
Cecilia's professional career has been steeped in education. She has earned a Masters Degree in Nursing and served in many capacities in surgery at MVH. She has experience in serving as Educator, Surgery QA Officer, management, and laser resource. She has credit for professional presentations including her thesis comparing job satisfaction between nurse managers and staff nurses, Eye Team orientation packet, and Stress Relief for OR staff. Cecilia has been a member of American Association of OR Nurses for over 20 years and is active in our Unit Council. She is always working on improving moral of the staff and has quarterly birthday celebrations. Cecelia has undertaken an important project of latex free trauma room., insuring a trauma patient will have zero probability of latex allergy encounter.
