I wanted to tell you what an awesome job one of your nurses did last week for a patient of mine. The patient was admitted with a broken hip. This was not your normal patient as she was visiting from Dallas, Texas after her husband had recently passed away. She came to Memphis because her husband was a huge fan of Elvis and one of his last wishes was to spread his ashes at Graceland. The patient drove to Memphis alone, with her husband's ashes at her side. When she got here she fell in the parking lot of her hotel and broke her hip. When she arrived in the PACU, she was very upset. She could hear that it was raining and your PACU nurse, Nancy Martin, did everything in her power to calm her down. The patient explained to Nancy that she had left her husband's ashes and her favorite personal item in her car with the sunroof open and it was now raining on both of them. Nancy promised the patient that she would take care of this for her.
Not long after, Nancy left work and went to the hotel to make sure the patient's personal belongings were taken care of. The next day she came to visit the patient and tell her that everything was fine. I believe that this goes to show just how wonderful of a nurse Nancy is. She didn't have to do this for the patient, but instead went out of her way to take care of the patient's concerns.
When I spoke with the patient she could not hold back the tears while telling me her story and said many good things about Nancy and her going the extra mile for her.
