Susan Lindsey is truly an asset to the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System's (GCVHCS) Blind Rehabilitation Center (BRC). She demonstrates the care and compassion recognized by the DAISY Award and embodies GCVHCS's ICARE Values: integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence.
As a strong Veterans' advocate, Susan not only recognized the need for reclining chairs in the BRC but also secured their support and funding. These reclining chairs have improved sleep quality and comfort for Veteran's with chronic conditions.
Susan identified an opportunity to improve documentation and processes regarding how and when Veterans are notified of which medications they should and should not bring with them to the BRC. These changes have positively impacted Veterans and the resources available to serve them.
Susan Lindsey enhances communication among BRC staff and thoughtfully schedules Veterans' care to minimize interruptions to their schedules. She truly cares about all of her patients, routinely volunteering to work alternate tours of duty in support of colleagues' planned and unplanned absences.
