Maureen has worked with the Mount Carmel Outreach Department for over 20 years. During that time, she has dedicated herself to the care of the poor, the medically underserved and the homeless in our community. Maureen spends most of her time on the Outreach mobile clinic and is sought out by our patients for her deep concern for their welfare and their living conditions. She has surreptitiously given funds to several of our patients so that they could travel by public transportation to join their families in different states. Reuniting with their loved ones has been a great blessing for them. She also asks about their living conditions and ability to access primary medical care which is a central focus of our work.
Maureen does not shy from difficult situations and is like a mother to many of the homeless. When one patient came to the mobile clinic inebriated and covered in feces, Maureen spent her lunch hour assisting him, cleaning him and providing him with new clothes. This was a testament to the devotion she has to her patients and which makes her such a deserving nurse for the DAISY Award.
