Katelyn Kane did her best to comfort her patient and family by answering their questions and keeping the mood light. "We found things to talk about right away." The patient was thrilled with her upbeat attitude and genuine concern, saying that he's never been treated by such a caring, young woman. Whether it was giving a reassuring hug or saying goodbye before the weekend, Katelyn understands what matters. "I know that attitude and extra gestures affect the quality of care 100 percent. Mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health while someone is in the hospital," she says.
Although it is great to be recognized for her hard work, she knows that she couldn't have done it without her co-workers. "They are truly the best. I could not be the nurse I want to be without their support, teamwork, helpfulness and great attitudes."
