I am compelled to write this message to recognize Casey as I have observed, as well as being a recipient of his exceedingly above and beyond work ethic, professionalism, and caring heart. This young man is most dedicated to the profession, patients, and co-workers. I have to say that he exhibits daily, great acts of kindness towards anyone who comes to his attention or his way.
Just to share a recent patient care episode, Casey was caring for a veteran with cancer whose appointments were pending status by community care for treatment in conjunction with Shand's. He expressed to me his concern for the patient's wellbeing and promptly addressed this veteran's medical needs by placing care notes and informing Casey to assist with coordination of care for this veteran. Like I mentioned before, this is only one observance of countless patient care encounters and interventions I have witnessed. I can go further and mention that I am confident that many of my co-workers would agree with me regarding Casey's compassionate heart.
I have worked with Casey for several months and have observed his great teaching abilities and the manner he takes time to explain to veterans and family members, about their health conditions and medications. His patient education is superb. He takes the time to assure that the patients' health concerns are explained so understanding and clarification is obtained. He is very polite and welcoming in his greeting to every veteran that comes by our POD and the clinic in general, making them feel right at home in our VA. His customer service is exceptional.
Casey has stayed late on more than one occasion to ensure veterans in need of treatments, after his work hours, have been attended to and not left at the moment with pending inquiries or requests. I have seen him escort veterans, who were in pain or could not walk, to X-ray, MRI, and even to their car in the parking lot. Casey's work ethic is extraordinary, and he makes a great role model for other nurses as he most certainly is the epitome of our ICARE values. He is truly an example of what service to others is all about.
