Matt is a rock star among nurses. Here is a snapshot of what makes him deserving of this recognition.
After working a 12 hour day shift, the ER calls and specifically requests him to do a difficult IV start. He obliges and is successful. He is frequently called to help in this capacity and he does so with enthusiasm and great success. He is a team player.
...We are informed we will be getting a patient on a balloon pump, he immediately volunteers to stay an additional 4 hours to get this patient settled in and stable. It is the next day, Matt is now working a 12 hour night shift and is mentoring a nursing student as well as juggling charge nurse duties. As he is anticipating room priorities for the upcoming shift, Matt sees a lethal rhythm on the monitor from a patient in PCU. With his student in tow he does not hesitate to lead the code and ultimately transfer the patient to the ICU.
Matt is a fearless and selfless team player in our hospital and stands out as an exceptional nurse.
