During my rounds and from notes from patients, Carolyn's name is frequently mentioned. Comments from patients and their families include things like kind, empathetic, professional, and calm in emergencies.
The granddaughter of an elderly patient relayed how impressed she was with Carolyn's ability to manage her grandfather. The patient required around the clock attention and was forgetful leading him to frequently ring the call bell. Each time Carolyn entered the room smiling asking how she could help, she waited patiently for him to explain his needs. The granddaughter conveyed how thankful she was for Carolyn's patience making her feel she could go home and rest because her grandfather was in very good hands.
The wife of a young patient admitted for a possible stroke was impressed with the time Carolyn spent explaining the steps involved when ruling out a stroke. Carolyn was precepting a new nurse and it was clear to the wife that she was educating both the patient and the nurse. As Carolyn explained each step; she simultaneously educated the patient and the new nurse while demonstrating to the new nurse proper documentation in the computer. The wife felt confident leaving her husband in Carolyn's care and voiced her respect for Carolyn's role as a teacher.
I am proud to work alongside Carolyn, she demonstrates what an exceptional nurse looks like. Carolyn is kind to patients, their families and staff. In her role as Charge Nurse, she serves as a mentor for newer staff and as a resource to the staff on the floor.
