Joan took an after-hours call from a family who was concerned on how to administer tube feedings and medications to a new g-tube. The family had declined a same day visit from a homecare nurse but then realized after hours that they needed assistance and reached out to our on call staff. Joan spoke to the family and identified the urgency of their need. She contacted the supervisor on call to report the need and even though it was not her responsibility to see any scheduled visits after hours she immediately volunteered to do so. She spent several hours with them ensuring that they felt comfortable and safe caring for the patient through the night so that a followup visit the next day was all they needed to feel secure. Joan showed remarkable team work and professionalism to ensure a safe transition home for the patient and her family who was very anxious at the start of the care.
