My brother was admitted to Robyn's unit MICU in total failure, heart, liver, and kidney. Once we had Robyn assigned to his care we began requesting her to care for my brother. She was an advocate and would discuss his care with the team of doctors and give her professional input sometimes influencing their decision. For example, the specialists of the different disciplines wanted to make changes to critical drips, and dialysis. Robyn intervened saying to the team only one change at a time. They respect her professional knowledge and expertise. She never sat down, always working hard 12+ hours/day. She would take the time to make eye contact with our family and explain all of his care and discuss labs and goals. She was an advocatefor him, concerned about skin breakdown and set a care plan with a special cream and other recommendations to follow. Because of her, my brother never had skin breakdown during his stay at MICU. Robyn is a wound specialist on her unit. She is a resource to her peers as they come to her for advice.
After 2 ½ weeks in MICU, he was transferred to another facility since his medical problem started with his heart. After being given no hope and changing his status to a DNR, he is now recovering and looking forward to quality of life. In retrospect, he received by far the absolute best care from Robyn. She was professional, direct, compassionate and extremely hard working. I have been a nurse for 40 years and have never been so impressed by one's work ethic as I have been with Robyn's. She is a leader on the unit, demonstrated by other nurses always asking her advice. She had new nurses during one shift and would take time to say hello and check in on my brother. My brother is now in another hospital (his fourth one) trying to get stronger so that he can go home. We will always remember Robyn for her extraordinary care she gave my brother.
