Lisa Keelan exemplifies what a nurse should be. She not only went above and beyond when asked to accommodate a patient's request for three days of infusions over a weekend holiday, she took care of all the logistics related to the patient's treatments. She ensured the infusions were on the unit and ready to be infused when the patient arrived on the unit. When the patient needed blood drawn, she arranged for the lab to come up to the unit so the patient did not have to make an additional stop on his way out. She truly functions as a patient and family advocate.
Lisa sat with the patient during the infusions and was truly present when talking to him and his fiancé. She took the time to answer questions and offer emotional support during a frightening experience for the patient. She made the patient feel like he was the only patient she was caring for while he was there.
When someone takes the time to develop a relationship and make a connection with me, that is exceptional. When someone makes me comfortable and gives me the opportunity to express my concerns that is exceptional. When someone ensures all my needs are met, that is exceptional. When someone makes me feel like I am the only person she is caring for, that is exceptional. Without question, Lisa exceeded this patient's and his family's expectations and provided a therapeutic and caring environment for the patient. I feel confident she treats all of her patients in the same caring and compassionate manner and makes each one feel special, as if they are the only patient she caring for that day.
