...Previously, I was a patient at different clinic/hospital system for many years and for various reasons became dissatisfied with my care. I elected to transfer my cares to Mayo Clinic system to see if it would be a better fit for me. I immediately developed a great physician-patient relationship with my newly assigned clinic provider at that time, and I could not have been luckier to have his nurse Deborah Lisick involved in my care.

In reality, the clinic nurse is able to spend more time than the physician on a complex patient like myself. While I was very pleased with the quality of care from my provider, to my surprise and delight I formed a very trusting relationship with my nurse Deb. She is a role model of compassion, honesty, and unwavering integrity; I quickly became dependent on her cares. She helps me to coordinate my transportation so that I will not miss important clinic visits. She reviews all the information my physician provides and frequently writes down instructions for me to help remember. She explains everything to me thoroughly and carefully, providing individualized care for my needs. She knows me so well and takes time out of her busy schedule to help me individually. For example, once she called me at home to inquire about my missing a lab appointment; when she discovered that it was due to an acute illness, she organized a ride for me to come in and see my physician.

I eventually had the unfortunate luck of losing my provider; however, I felt that as long as I could continue to work with Deb as my nurse, I would be fine. I urge the committee to strongly consider Deb for the DAISY Award because I feel she illustrate the perfect example of an exceptionally caring nurse. She is the most devoted, hard-working, knowledgeable nurse I have had the privilege of working with. I feel safe under her care and would like to see her receive recognition for her outstanding work.
