Flora is one of the most compassionate nurses that I have had the pleasure to work with and takes pride in all aspects of care that she provides to the Veterans. She honors the VA's mission by providing dignity and respect to every Veteran she cares for while ensuring their safety. She never takes shortcuts and will even go out of her way to perform extra cares on Veterans that she is not assigned to. For example, a Veteran that was assigned for the next tour to get up became restless and was trying to get out of the bed without assist. Flora took the initiative to wash the Veteran up, dress him, and transfer him safely into his wheelchair for breakfast. She was concerned that the Vet was going to fall and did all she could to prevent this from happening. She never once complained about having to do extra care or looked for recognition. She truly focuses on serving the Veterans and continuously strives for improvement. She pays close attention to detail and reports any abnormal vital sign or changes in condition immediately to her charge nurse. For a is dedicated to the Veterans and comes in early often to assist wherever help is needed. She adapts to all of the different encounters and challenges that occur on 9CS daily. Flora takes the initiative to handle problems within her job scope with little to no guidance. She collaborates with members of the team and brings new ideas on how to improve the quality of Veteran-centric care. She is excel-lent at prioritizing task s and exercising sounds judgment during emergent situations. Flora accommodates the day to day needs of some of the more challenging Veterans with Dementia or PTSD and never deters from her mission of providing quality care. Flora has a great sense of humor with the Veterans, which aides in providing a positive outlook to help them face overwhelming challenges. She values the ability to hear the Veterans stories, to gain a better understanding of what they have been through and to be able to advocate for them during difficult times.
