Marilyn has had a 50-year career as a nurse. She started in Cleveland and spent 32 years working L&D and post-partum (back in the day of 2 week hospital birth stays!).
In 1997 her unit lost 75% of its volume to a competing facility, downsized then in 2001 was converted to a post-op unit. Marilyn became a manager, closing and converting two additional units along the way, then retired.
Three months later, she started work as an interim manager. Swedish Ballard was her 13th engagement in 13 years.
While at Swedish Ballard, she led the hard work of rebuilding her team after significant practice model changes, and through the eventual closure of the unit. She was a bright light during challenging times, and we miss her very much.
Her advice for her nurses? Don't ever give up - there are so many options for you!
