Cindy's compassion as a nurse extends not only to her patient but to the patient's loved ones. As an operating room nurse, she is clearly mindful of the anxiety and fear felt by not only her patient but also felt by the patient's family and loved ones. Cindy is aware that it is difficult to sit in the waiting area and watch the clock wondering how their loved one is doing. Every day I observe her escorting family toward the waiting room. I hear her words of comfort ensuring family that their loved one will be given excellent care. She will instruct the family on what to expect in regards to the time frame and when to expect updates. Cindy will also encourage the family to get something to eat - reminding them they will be paged if necessary. She speaks in a calming manner and provides the necessary time to answer any questions. As an OR nurse, she will only have a few minutes to gain the trust of the patient and family. Cindy's daily actions easily earn her that trust.
