Vanessa answered a call from a family member regarding their loved one. There was a need for a paracentesis for a patient who has never been here. The family stated they had a standing order for this. Ultimately the patient's PCP needed to be called to obtain an order, the insurance called for a pre-auth, and Ultrasound for availability. Vanessa contacted everyone involved and was able to get the patient in to have the procedure rather quickly and without the patient having to come in through the Emergency Department. The patient and family were very happy with this personalized care.
Thanks to Vanessa, the patient was able to receive the needed treatment quickly and without the extra time, unnecessary procedures and bills. Vanessa embodies the PETAL acronym in the following ways: Passion-for nursing care by rapidly responding to the situation. Empathy- for organizing this so quickly. Teamwork- for pulling all the departments involved in making a plan come together. Admirable Attributes-compassion and organization. Love of Nursing- this nurse made this all happen when normally other departments schedule these procedures. Selflessness- jumping in to solve the problem instead of turfing it to other departments.
