Noel cared for a patient who needed a chest tube insertion in the PACU. Her young daughter who was with her was very distressed by this. Noel sat and talked with the daughter to explain what was happening and why and reassured her that everything was okay. The next day Noel visited the patient in the ICU and brought her a picture that her daughter had drawn for her.
The patient who nominated Noel was so impressed that her surgery nurse would care enough not only to comfort her daughter but to also take the time to check on her the following day. She described Noel as an extraordinary nurse who went the extra mile for her family!
