Nurses are special and caring people who have chosen his or her role because of the call. That call involves helping others restore his or her healthcare status to an optimum level. To serve in the role as a nurse, a special person has to be chosen. This special person will be an individual who makes a difference in countless lives. This special person currently works at the SW clinic and has exemplified the role of being a nurse: Kathryn Mason, LVN.
Kathryn has taken this call and projected a professional image by contributing toward the advancement of the nursing profession. When Kathryn interacts with patients, she conducts herself with optimal professionalism by taking time to listen and treat the patient with dignity and respect. When she identifies an opportunity to improve the patient's health status, Kathryn will go above and beyond to ensure that the patient and the family member understand his or her disease process, the recommended treatment plan, or the correct way to take a medication. Patients who receive care by Kathryn quickly realize that their health care needs are her priority. Because nurses are people too, Kathryn unfortunately encountered a physical setback about a year and a half ago. Others would have given up, but Kathryn was determined to return to the workplace because she knew that her patients needed her contributions. Upon her return to work, Kathryn realized that she actually had some of the same limitations that some of her patients experienced. After overcoming some of those hurdles, she began to seek ways to reconnect with the clinical team by becoming involved in the different committees and responsibilities.
The attribute that most describes Kathryn is being a healer. She is a professional who treats patients with dignity and respect and remains culturally sensitive when interacting with patients. She encourages patients to become part of their health needs by promoting self esteem and establishing a trusting relationship. Her commitment and priority in helping the patient restore to a normal healthy state is a consistent approach as she provides care to patients one patient at a time.
