Fellow staff members nominated Desiree and Krista for going well beyond their duties as nurses by setting up a plan and accompanying a dying patient to her son’s wedding.
The patient had been in and out of Winchester Hospital since 2007. She had one wish – to attend her son’s wedding. Both Desiree and Krista admired her determination and wanted to make her wish come true. On Saturday the two nurses accompanied their patient on an ambulance ride to the church so she could watch her son get married. The patient passed away a month after witnessing her son’s wedding.
Desiree and Krista redefined “compassionate care”. Their story was recently featured in the Boston Globe’s 2012 “Most Inspiring Stories” and now we honor them with the DAISY Award.
Congratulations Desiree and Krista!
