A person doesn't have to make headlines to be extraordinary. RN Tanja Allred is one of those people. When I went in for a CT scan recently, Tanja welcomed me and explained how the procedure would progress. One of the steps was to insert an IV prior to the scan. I didn't tell Tanja that Dracula would have problems finding my veins. Not to my surprise, that's the way it turned out. I could see that she was a little frustrated, and even apologetic. I told her not to worry about it.
Tanja deserves a DAISY Award because even through her frustrations she maintained an upbeat and professional demeanor. I was thoroughly impressed with her determination to do the right job and I applaud her for taking the initiative to take on difficult tasks.
What I didn't talk about was the fact that Tanja only has the use of one hand. Regardless of her physical challenges, she prevailed and did a great job. I know many people who have physical challenges, and most limit their activities because of their perceived limitations. Tanja does not. She totally embraces her passion to unselfishly care for others.
She does an excellent job and is an inspiration to others. That's what makes Tanja extraordinary.
