Amy makes a difference in the lives of patients and families by being a wonderful preceptor, thus creating a great number of newer nurses who know how to provide quality, compassionate care. Amy is one of the primary preceptors on our unit. She is an expert clinician, but what new nurses notice the most is her warm, welcoming demeanor. She takes all new nurses under her "wing" providing them with the opportunity to learn and grow in a "safe" environment. She corrects practice gently and respectfully, but firmly. She encourages newer nurses to grow in their critical thinking skills. She role models excellent nursing practice, and is always open to questions. She never appears hurried with her orientees, giving them her full attention and actively listening to their concerns. Several of the newer nurses she has precepted have gone on to receive Guardian Angel awards (as has Amy herself). She just beams like a proud parent when her past orientees receive accolades from peers, patients, or families. She continues to mentor her previous orientees and is always willing to lend a hand or answer a question.

By getting new nurses off to such a great start, Amy makes a huge difference in the lives of so many!
