My daughter is a mental health patient with hereditary and trauma created issues. She is also a drug addict who had decided, after several years of drug use, to live a clean life. About 2 weeks after this decision she was diagnosed with endocarditis and needed to be inpatient to receive antibiotic infusions every four hours for more than a month. She was not a typical patient and withdrawing from drugs she was quite cranky and at times belligerent. She is a sweet spirit and as she came out of the grip of the drugs this shone through. Through all of this time, Stephanie Roise-Yamashita made time on a daily basis to spend with her, get her out of her hospital room, give her assignments and then follow up on them, and get her tools to help with her addiction and mental health issues. My daughter so greatly appreciated this and felt that one person cared. This care provided what my daughter needed to get through this awful stage of her life and to start on her path to being clean and mentally healthy. Just taking the time to sit and visit while painting my daughter's nails provided the love that she needed to see that she is worthy of love and someone that cares about her. Add to the rest of her bundle of trials, her grandfather who was an integral part of her childhood passed away while she was inpatient. She wasn't able to say goodbye due to her own poor choices and had huge feelings of guilt about this. I am grateful that Stephanie was there to help her through this time. She is now clean, she struggles with it but she is determined, she has a job, and is getting outpatient care for her addictions. She has a chance at a good life largely due to the C&L team and Stephanie in particular.
