Shatena shows compassion and goes above and beyond for her patients. She is very thorough to make sure her patients get what they need. Recently, Shatena discovered a patient's name was listed incorrectly in the EMR. Due to Shatena finding this error, the patient was found to be insured when previously listed as uninsured. Without Shatena double-checking, this patient's outpatient resources were very limited.

I had knee replacement surgery. All the staff on this unit were very, very good, kind, and competent. But one lady stood out. Shatena came into my room to get the shift report from the night nurse. Shatena was not satisfied with the information given and proceeded to ask more questions about my history and more. Later that morning, I had oxycodone and my pulse dropped to 46. She was at my bedside, reattaching my IV fluids, taking vital signs, and teaching me about oxycodone. Because of her, I did not take any at home. I am an RN. I know I have bradycardia and will need a pacemaker one day in the future. She was a great observer and helped me.
