Kelly Macken demonstrated such a caring responsibility in advocating for the patient she was assigned to work with in the spring quarter 2016, of Community Public Health Clinical. She used her own time to see that her patient was able to go to the specialist appointment. She met her patient at Hahnemann in outpatient care area. She felt it was important to help the patient have a better understanding of what was happening at this appointment.  She used her personal time to go to the doctor?s appointment with her patient on her day off from classes.  Kelly was so generous!  Kelly was already so busy doing as much as possible to complete her own assignments and study for tests while she herself was moving. Kelly took extra time to help this elderly patient who lives alone and had no family support.  Kelly easily recognized how she could make a difference in this patient?s life by spending time with her and assisting her with many different things that she was not able to manage on her own.  Kelly learned so much about the complexities of medical care and the importance of following through with the care of this vulnerable older patient who could not have managed to do all that was required without assistance. Kelly realized through her experience how important it is to get to know the patients you are caring for and she was very appreciative of having had this experience to care for and get to know and assist this patient through community public health clinical.
