Who Is Eligible?
Most limit eligibility to Direct Care RNs to encourage retention. LPN and LVNs can also be included in your DAISY Award Program. You may also want to consider the eligibility of part-time vs. full-time nurses, traveling nurses, and nurses who work in your clinics or ambulatory settings. It's also a good idea to decide if you want each nomination endorsed by the nominee’s manager to ensure this is an employee in good standing.
Program Structure:
- How frequently do you wish to present? (Ex: Monthly, Quarterly, Bi-Annual or Annual Presentations)
- To ensure representation from all areas, you may want to consider grouping together nominations from similar units, departments or clinics and selecting at least one Honoree (depending on the frequency of your awards) from each during the year.
Consider turning all the wonderful letters you/your CNO gets from patients and families about a particular nurse’s care into a DAISY nomination. Just because a story was not written on a DAISY nomination form doesn’t mean the story isn’t worthy of consideration for a DAISY Award.
To generate as many nominations as possible, we recommend that anyone in the healthcare organization should be able to nominate a nurse for The DAISY Award - nurses/managers/directors, administrators, physicians, patients and families/visitors, other staff, etc.
