Erica took my hand, put it under the covers, and held my hand.
I delivered my fourth child. Erica came into my room when her shift started. Even though it was my fourth child, I had never breastfed before and I really wanted to do it this time. She stood right next to me for 45 minutes, teaching me and showing me techniques. During those 45 minutes, she taught me exactly what I needed. After the two hours were up, she brought me to my post-partum room.
I was scheduled for a tubal removal and when the time came and I was happy it was Erica who was the nurse that came to get me and bring me up to Pre-op. I felt sad and lonely leaving my husband and new baby but having a familiar face helped. Even though it was a decision (to have a tubal) that I had already made, it was kind of a grief emotion to finish that part of my life.
Erica talked to me in Pre-op, answered questions and when I went to the Operating Room, she came with me. As I started shaking on the table, she asked if I was nervous, which I was. This part I won't forget - Erica took my hand, put it under the covers, and held my hand. The Anesthesiologist informed me he was giving me meds to fall asleep. I squeezed Erica's hand and she squeezed back. That gesture meant more to me than any other part of my hospitalization. Erica brings a human touch and I appreciated her!
