Lucy, along with her co-worker, hurt for the patient and family but knew that they could not let the patient pass and be alone in her last moments on this earth.
When speaking with Lucy you can feel the pain and toll that the COVID pandemic has had on her. She can share numerous stories related to the patients she has cared for, but one story stood out as a true demonstration of her compassion for her patients. She spoke of being with a fellow team member when a patient took her last breath; how she and her co-worker held the patient's hand as the patient's family stood outside the room watching through a window. You see the patient's family was afraid of the COVID virus, and fearful that they would contract the virus if they came into the room. Lucy, along with her co-worker, hurt for the patient and family but knew that they could not let the patient pass and be alone in her last moments on this earth. With tears in her eyes as she shared this story, I could feel the hurt that she had endured for each of her patients over the past several months. This truly demonstrated the love and compassion she has deep in her heart and the passion she has for providing nursing care to patients during critical times.
