Adreane had gone above and beyond in the storming rainy weather
Adreane Larcher has a work ethic, caring attitude, and willingness to go the extra mile in caring for her patients that stands out. I am speaking from my personal experience in dealing with Adreane recently. I am an advocate and care manager for the clergy within the diocese, which covers five counties. I recently had a clergy discharged from the hospital with a Covid 19 positive diagnosis and pneumonia. It appears when they did the “6-minute walk test” at the hospital they did not qualify for home oxygen. When I followed up with this patient at home after hospital discharge, they said they were having a difficult time breathing, were very short of breath, and felt as though they needed oxygen at home. I called the Doctor, and they were not very helpful. I then called my patient back, and I asked for the phone number from the BayCare admission folder, as they had been admitted the day before by BayCare. I then called and spoke with Adreane and we discussed this difficult situation of needing to qualify for oxygen at less than 93%, I believe. I asked how we could make this happen. She said the patient needs to check their pulse ox, and if it drops, they need to input it into a machine or phone which connects directly to the BayCare system, as BayCare needs written data and not just verbal statements of being short of breath, which I understand.
The patient in question does not speak English well, so Adreane was able to get a bilingual staff member to interpret and educate my patient on what needs to be done to prove his oxygen level had dropped. Adreane and I spoke a couple of times throughout the day on Friday and I was very concerned with the weekend coming that this patient might wind up back in the hospital, which was what his Doctor’s office told me to tell him since they could not order the oxygen, not having all the paperwork they needed yet. I called Adreane on Friday to inform her that I had just spoken to my patient and was told that they had walked around inside the house and their oxygen dropped below 90%. I asked if they had put it in for documentation to BayCare and they did not quite understand me. I called Adreane and left her a voice mail regarding this situation. I was praying the patient would qualify for oxygen before the end of the day and that oxygen could be delivered by end of the day before the weekend. I called the patient Saturday and they were feeling better, the oxygen had been delivered Friday and the patient was able to breathe and rest much better.
On Monday, I received a wonderful phone call from Adreane and she informed me that she personally delivered the oxygen to my patient, as she was as concerned as I was, that he was in great need and neither one of us wanted to see the patient return to the hospital. I did not know Adreane had gone above and beyond in the storming rainy weather to provide personal service to my patient. This really touched my heart as she told me what she had done, and I expressed my gratitude to her for her concern and her big heart. I want you to know that this is outstanding service on her part and as a former BayCare HH Nurse myself, I am proud to commend Adreane and praise her integrity and stand next to her as a Nurse, colleague, and now friend. I applaud her and I admire and congratulate her for her outstanding work as a Nurse with a big heart!
