When my lower back pain prevented me from sleeping, Sosamma gave me a gentle massage.
From the moment Sosamma started her evening shift on our first night in ICU, she was moving like a tornado! All night she wiped all equipment for administering meds with sanitizer, especially after 3 other nurses helped one family member, the patient, was prepared and worked to go to do a scan. She was on top of patients change of diaper turning from side-to-side and checking meds. She has been very compassionate and caring. We the patient’s family, just adore her, and felt comfortable leaving hospital for a while, knowing patient was in great hands. When the patient’s wife got bad news from the doctors, and became very upset, and wasn’t able to console herself, or walk. Ms. Sosamma got a wheelchair for her and saw that someone got the wife to meet the other family member pick her up at the exit downstairs! Bless this nurse among others that work in the ICU and Bless you for hiring them. Thank you. The care in this ICU given by the AM and PM staff is wonderful!

During my 40+ years as a teacher I have written countless recommendations. None has given me more pleasure to write than this one. Sosamma Abraham is a treasure. Sosamma was one of my night nurses while I was in the ICU after two craniotomies. While every caregiver I’ve met at Medical City has been helpful, Sosamma went the extra mile every shift. It is not easy to do a blood draw from my arm. Many phlebotomists and nurses tried several times before they gave up. Before Sosamma rotated onto my care team, my arm was black and blue from elbow to wrist. Sosamma has both patience and skill (and magic hands) – she was routinely successful on the first attempt. Sosamma went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and resting well.
When my lower back pain prevented me from sleeping, she gave me a gentle massage. When I just needed company, she stopped in between caring for other patients to chat and reassure me. She took the time to meet my family when they visited, answered their questions, and assured them that I was well taken care of. My family considers Sosamma part of our family! Sosamma tells me that she is a nurse because she wants to help other people. She communicates he warmth, her concern, and her commitment to helping her patients with every touch of her hands. Whenever Sosamma walked into my room her quiet grace was reassuring and calming. Her presence was essential to my recovery and healing. Her every word and gesture conveyed her genuine caring. She is what all nurses should strive to be. Sosamma embodies the highest standards of nursing. Medical City is lucky to have her, as is every patient she cares for.

Sosamma is very nurturing and caring. She always made me feel comfortable from day one. Her assistance and help during my stay in the ICU was 100%. I was glad to see her smiling face. Thank you, Sosamma, for service well done. From the first day, it would not have been the same if I didn’t have her. She made sure I knew when she’d be back for the next shift. She made me feel at ease and ensure I had everything I needed. From getting me to restroom, drink, jello, and ice chips. After my brain surgery, I was nauseous and vomited. She took care of everything and got me all cleaned up.

There are so many wonderful things that Sosamma did for me that it is hard to explain all of them. I went to the emergency room because I fell getting out of my bed at 3:00 in the morning at my apartment. I was trying to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom with my walker. My husband tried to help me, but my right leg collapsed underneath me. I have lung cancer that had metastasized to my T11 and T2 vertebrae. When I fell it collapsed my spine and was making me paralyzed from the waist down. I could not feel my legs. My foot and ankle was turning black and blue, and we did not want to go to the hospital because we knew my husband could not be with me.
I called my Dr. to tell him what happened, and he said I really needed to go because it sounded like I could be paralyzed forever if I didn’t. We went to the ER and my husband was not able to be with me and it was so scary. We have been married 52 years and never apart more than 3 days at a time. I did not know what I was going to do. I prayed a lot. I went through a lot of tests, and they admitted me into the hospital. My Dr. came to my room the next morning and said I needed an MRI the next day. I had a 4 hour MRI then had emergency surgery the next day. I had a 4 hour surgery on the T11 and they put 2 rods and 6 screws to fix my collapsed spine. I went to NVICU after surgery, and I feel that is when god sent an angel down to take care of me. I have never met the kindest, smartest, most loving person in my life. I was so afraid not having my husband there and God knew I needed Sosamma to take care of me. She was so gentle with me and such a confident and caring nurse. She goes above and beyond the normal duties. I only had her for 2 or 3 nights, but she was incredible, and I did not want to leave her! I was there for three weeks and on 4 different floors. I had a lot of nurses but none of them compared to Sosamma!

Sosamma is a genuinely caring individual. She listened to my concerns and helped relax me during this stressful process. She made herself readily available to help and was sweet no matter the task or time. Her skill and compassion can be seen in her work and how she interacts with her patients.
