Joanna was the first to volunteer and took tonight’s shift.
While rounding one day, L opened up to Joanna with some of her struggles. L has been stretched thin trying to balance caring for her parents, moving them out of their home (it’s only the second home they’ve ever lived in), and keeping up with work. Joanna’s servant and compassionate heart couldn’t let an opportunity pass.
Last week, when L’s dad was discharged, Joanna gave L a cheerful bouquet of flowers and a sweet card from all of our staff. She also offered to help with L’s parents in the evenings when the day help left. Joanna rallied with some team members, and has tonight-Sunday night covered to have someone sit at home with L’s parents from 4:30-8:30 so that L can get their things packed and moved. Our team members help get their dinner ready and served and help them with ADLs before bed. They are volunteering their time.
When L offered (and really wanted) to pay them, we suggested she make a donation to the employee relief fund instead! Joanna was the first to volunteer and took tonight’s shift. It sounds like L’s mom was so excited to have a new face to keep her company! Joanna learned all about her favorite meal which includes a double cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake! L’s dad, who has not been wanting to get out of bed, did get up and enjoy some soup and a visit with Joanna!
