The competition was stiff, and this team set a high standard for the roll out of the DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity.
PNA Metro DC COVID-19 Task Force team is selected as the PNAA 2021 team of the Inaugural DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity. The DAISY foundation recognized PNAA members and chapters are very well-positioned to advance health equity given their trust-based relationships with patients, families, and communities, their ability to address social needs, their integration of social care into overall care, and their strong communication skills. The selection of PNA Metro DC was a truly an undertaking with all five (5) team nominees representing excellence! The signature qualities that “tipped” the scale for the recognition of PNA Metro DC included this teams’ application conveying their shared vision to advance health equity by addressing areas of health and health care access inequities in diverse vulnerable populations (i.e. senior citizens, homeless, back-to-back typhoon disaster victims in the Philippines).
Within both the team “story” board and their nominator’s statement, there were clearly identified aims, measurable outcomes, and quantitative and qualitative data on the notable impact on seven initiatives that addressed the award criteria of promotion of equity (i.e. reinforced and/or initiated partnerships with existing systems such as American Diversity Group, Medspac, NBC 4), Influence/implement change (i.e. accessing evidence-based information, utilizing available resources to increase COVID-19 vaccination confidence) and teach others (i.e. offering strategies to raise awareness on mental health agility, and existing gaps and disparities on organ transplantation within the Asian American community). The competition was stiff, and this team set a high standard for the roll out of the DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity. Congratulations!
