I was scared, but Lisa stayed by me and kept me calm the entire time.
I had visited L & D 2 days prior to giving birth thinking my water broke. Though after being assessed and tests being done I was informed it was not my water and I was not in active labor. I went home and actually had 2 more incidents which I thought was my water again, but I had no other symptoms warranting me to go to the hospital. Two days after my false alarm I woke up that morning in active labor. I was greeted by our nurse Lisa and she immediately began listening to my story from prior days and quickly communicated to the physician. She coached me through the birth and the pain. She made me feel empowered and secure through the birthing process. After I gave birth I had some complications with increased bleeding. I was scared, but Lisa stayed by me and kept me calm the entire time. She advocated for me and all the nurses kept me calm and grounded during a very traumatic time. Once I learned my son needed to go to the NICU, there was Lisa comforting me. Lisa never once made me feel like my emotions were too much or that I was overreacting. This was a very traumatic experience I endured emotionally and physically. I truly do not think I could’ve done it without a nurse like Lisa by my side. She is really amazing.
