Prior to his transport, Jaime made certain that his wife was able to see him.
Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jaime. We were working the observation COVID unit together. I had a patient who was not doing well who was about to transfer to the ICU for intubation as he did not maintain his oxygenation on BiPap. His wife was also a patient on the COVID unit. Prior to his transport, Jaime made certain that his wife was able to see him. She brought his wife into his room in a wheelchair so they could say goodbye. She even took a photo of them together on the patient’s phone. Given the outcomes of people intubated with COVID, this felt like an important moment and one his wife would need. Luckily, he was eventually extubated and is recovering. I was thoroughly impressed with her compassion. It’s hard to remember she is a new grad when working with her as she is so confident. She is a great teammate and such a compassionate person. Her heart for this profession makes her so special.
