Karen is compassionate, always there for our patients, and always smiling and upbeat.
Karen is first and foremost an incredibly good clinician, with superb judgment, breadth of knowledge, and mastery of both the clinical and practical (what is the Epic code for bladder voiding trial?) things that are necessary to care for patients in 2021. But that is just the start: She is compassionate, always there for our patients, and always smiling and upbeat. Patients in my practice sing her praises regularly--she knows them, their families, and what they are going through medically and socially. I've known Karen since she was a Medical Assistant in GIM. She was incredible in that role--then when she went to UW School of Nursing, then also when she was on 6NE and was involved in the care of my hospitalized patients and then in one of the best days in my time in UW Medicine when she returned to MY TEAM at the Roosevelt GIM Center. I had her present to a course I teach in the School of Medicine and saw her intelligence shine through when students asked her tough questions. We have so many outstanding clinicians in our clinic, but I'm singling out Karen for this nomination because she is working especially hard this last year and serves as the continuity glue in so many ways. What a totally awesome person and colleague!
