I came to Kaiser through the Emergency. I had an emergency surgery that day on my stomach and I was still recovering from my total hip replacement. I was admitted into the hospital that day. First, I want to say that the care I received here from all the staff was awesome. There was one person who really went above and beyond her duties and that would be Liz Medina. The first day in my room I felt disoriented – lost. She came in and asked how I was, told her I was in pain. She told me she would be right back and she came back with some medication. I didn’t know what, why or how the medication would affect me. It was really necessary for me to take. I was flabbergasted by the way she explained to me in such detail about why my meds were needed, the effect the meds could have, and what to expect from each medication. I was astonished at how much she knew in detail. She made me feel very comfortable in taking the medication I was given. Another time I waited too long to ask for pain meds. I was in excruciating pain and she came into my room and helped me by helping me concentrate on my breathing. She even held my hand which showed me she genuinely was concerned about me.

I’ve been a Kaiser patient for over 15 years and have had several surgeries done here at this location. I can’t remember anyone providing me with all the information I’ve asked for. The exception was Liz and if she didn’t know, she would find out for me. She even found me lactose-free milk which when I asked the person who took food orders, told me they only had low-fat. Somehow Liz got me the Lactose-free milk. I could’ve kissed her for that. Liz has shown me sincerity, compassion, and empathy during my stay here. I as well, work with the public as an RDA in the dental field. I’m hoping to take what I’ve learned from Liz and provide the exceptional care she has given me to my patients. Liz is truly a gem!
